Snore Guards

Snoreguards by Comfortable Care Dentistry
A snoreguard is a device made for your mouth that opens the passages that cause snoring. The snoreguard prevents your jaw and tongue from dropping back into the throat while you are sleeping. When you sleep you relax the muscles of your nose, jaw and tongue which cause them to collapse. Your tongue and lower jaw restrict airflow and this increases the speed of which the wind is traveling. If your airways become completely blocked it can cause you to stop breathing for prolonged durations of time, a condition called sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea causes you to wake up several times a night and wake up in the morning with feelings of restlessness. As a result of a poor night’s sleep, people with snoring problems are usually fatigued, depressed, moody or just sleepy throughout the day. Although you may be a snorer, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have sleep apnea. Before you decide that you want a snoreguard, you should allow Dr. Kostrzewski to perform a thorough evaluation to see if a snoreguard is right for you.

There are a lot of factors for snoring and sleep apnea other than jaw and tongue dropping so the snoreguard device may not even work for you. There is no one cure for every patient and this is the reason why it is important to be evaluated by a professional to see what can be done to remedy your unique situation. Often the biggest reasons that people snore is because of obesity, factoring in one’s weight and diet as an indicator.

Snoreguards are custom fit to your mouth by Dr. Kostrzewski so they are comfortable and feel natural in your mouth. To fit a custom snoreguard to your mouth, Dr. Kostrzewski will measure the length of your upper and lower teeth, and then craft a nightguard that fits your unique jaw positioning. The snoreguard is only fitted to your top teeth and is only used during sleep. The device prevents your tongue from dropping back into your throat and blocking the airways and thus relieves the obstruction.
